Tuition $$
For this blog I chose to write about an article titled "Clark State's Successful Tuition Challenge Program Continues" found in My Springfield Paper volume 15 issue 36. This article talks of a program implemented by Clark State to help keep tuition at an affordable rate. This program allows students with an average grade of C or higher that are enrolled in at least 12 credit hours to receive a 5% discount in tuition fees. Students enrolled in 15 or more credit hours with appropriate grades shall be granted a 10% tuition deduction. I enjoyed this article because it educated me to the fact that Clark State offers such a program. As a student, I am interested in any program that allows me to save. As a father of three, I am interested in how the extra money I save can better benefit my family. I also learned that this program has been approved for continuation. This article has educated me to many facts about a program offered to me, as a student of Clark State.
C.M.A.
For my blog this week I chose an article titled "Bikers Share Faith at South Vienna Corn Festival" found in My Springfield Paper volume 15 issue 36. The article discusses the Covenant Riders and there association to the Christian Motorcycle Association. These riders represent Springfield, London, and the surrounding areas. There mission is to provide a Christian fellowship ride group, provide encouragement to members to participate in testimony, and to provide an evangelistic association for motorcycling. This article centers around a tent that the bikers had set up on September eleventh at the Vienna Corn Festival to talk about the events that occurred on that day in the past, when terrorist attacked the United States of America. I found this article to be enlightening and educating. It enlightened me because it showed me that there is a Christian motorcycle club. It was educating because it spoke of the festival and some of the things this motorcycle group was trying to accomplish.
Profile Essay With a Lesson in Grammar
I learned many things from my profile experience. D.R. Reva Hutchins was who I chose to profile. I focused mainly on her success and the trend of success she created within her family. I learned interesting facts about life before the Civil Rights Act. D.R. Hutchins spoke of people who tried to talk her out of a computer science major simply because she was African American. She spoke of businesses that wouldn't allow her inside. I also learned of the fear that Americans felt toward the Vietnam War and the draft. I also liked that even though she faced many hardships she still became a successful computer analyst and college professor. If she accomplished her goals I feel I can accomplish mine. When I returned my paper to her she set in her rather expensive grey Lexus and read for twenty minutes. She rolled her window down and motioned me to her vehicle. She smiled at me with her pearl white teeth and said " Thank you". As I looked over the paper she handed me back, I realized that she had proofread my paper and made corrections with a red pen. She said "You will pull your grade up if you make these corrections". We said goodbye and she pulled out. Even in the returning of my profile to its subject I had learned a lesson in grammar.

Local news
For this weeks blog i chose to read an article, in My Springfield Paper. It was titled College Interns Help Grow Ohio Exports. I got the paper for free, at Clark County Public Library. The paper is dated August 25, 2016. It's focus is on how Ohio exports have grown, through the help of Ohio State University students. Starting with nine students in 2012, this internship program has graduated 144 students. It has generated $19 million, in estimated Ohio export sales. This writing was enlightening and educating. It was educating, because of the many facts it included. It was enlightening, because it enlightened me that undergraduate students can make a difference through local internships. It has me thinking about my own college career. What kind of internships and co-ops will be available to me? Will I be able to make a difference? These are just some of the questions I ask myself, after reading this article.

Art or Vandalism
I want to blog about a piece, I read in our Norton Field Guide, page 896. It was written by Marcia F. Brown. It is titled Maine's First Graffiti Artist. This tells the story of Mike Rich. I found this piece enlightening and educating. It enlightened me, that graffiti can be a positive art form. Many times we hear the word graffiti and we think of vandalism. This writing shows how Mike Rich takes it to a positive stand point. By painting murals he inspires his public. This shows there is more to the art of graffiti, than gang signs and destruction. Graffiti may also be beautiful and inspiring. It was also enlightening that some graffiti artist find it difficult to uphold the anti-establishment roots of graffiti, while the art form gains acceptance by the public. Most people start creating graffiti as a means of rebellion. If the art form was accepted by main stream media, would it still be a means of rebellion? I also found it educating. I learned that some colleges accept graffiti as an art form. I learned that in 1983 PBS aired Style Wars, a documentary on subway art. This is also educating, by being an example profile.

All 4 E's
I read an excerpt from "Orange Is the NEW Black: My Year IN Women's Prison". This piece was written by Piper Kerman. I was introduced to the piece as a sample essay, in The Norton Field Guide To Writing With Readings. First of all, I consider this piece educational, because it was an excellent example of a memoir. This piece was also entertaining it kept me interested wondering why this woman was going to prison. It was enlightening, because I am a fan of the Netflix original show The Orange is the New Black and never knew it was based on a book. You also could feel emotion in the writing, as Kerman speaks of her anguish, while turning herself in to the prison. This whole story is of a woman turning herself into prison, for crimes committed years earlier. I feel this was an excellent example where a writer uses all of the four E's of reading and writing.

Entertainment and Emotional
"Death Fiend Guerillas" written by William S. Burroughs, published in " Confederacy of the Dead",(a fictional collection of short stories) is an entertaining and emotional piece of literature. I found this book at the Clark County Public Library. This tells the story of how a Confederate troop, of only twenty, conquers one-hundred Union men. I find the battle described to be entertaining. The detail Burroughs uses to describe the battle paints a vivid picture of action taking place. Burroughs writes of the maneuvers used to make it possible to overcome such numerical odds. He writes of George Tod positioning his men on top of a hill. Tod , with one other soldier, then rides in to draw the Union soldiers to position for defeat. This piece is emotional because it evokes excitement and sadness. Excitement is evoked the instant battle begins. Sadness and grief are evoked when Bill Anderson, a Confederate soldier, drags twenty-six Union solders out and executes already wounded men. "Death Fiend Guerillas" uses two of the four E's of reading and writing.
